.. _faq: FAQs ==== Flight Climatic Analysis (FCA) ------------------------------ Q: How FCA annual anomalies are calculated? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Annual anomalies are the difference between the variable (e.g., temperature) in the region for a given day minus the average of the same variable for those same calendar days in the whole available period. For example, for the 1st January 2026, the anomaly at a given location is the variable on 1st January 2026 minus the average value of the variable on all 1st Januarys from 1950 to 2026. Urban Heat Island (UHI) ----------------------- Q: How can I interpret the SUHI intensity maps? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ To derive Surface Urban Heat Island (SUHI) intensity, a preprocessing step is first performed to compute the Land Surface Temperature (LST) time series from satellite thermal imagery. The SUHI intensity is then calculated from the resulting LST data. #. The algorithm used is the Statistical Mono-Window (SMW) method. This remote sensing technique estimates LST from satellite thermal infrared imagery by analyzing a single thermal band and applying statistically derived coefficients. This method is applied both on daytime and nighttime. #. SUHI intensity is defined pixel by pixel, as the portion of the LST time series below the 90th percentile threshold. The spatial extent (shape) of the SUHI is determined by areas where those values exceed the mean plus 0.5 times the standard deviation.
