Which methodology was used to develop the functionalities available on Eki’learning? ====================================================================================== Introduction ------------ Ekitia's ambition is to make ethics actionable in data and AI projects. To this end, Ekitia has developed the Eki'Learning platform, consisting of three main tools based on the Ethical Charter for Data Use: - `E-learning capsules <#methodology-for-developing-e-learning-capsules>`_ - `Ethical scan <#methodology-for-developing-ethical-scan>`_ - `Ethical maturity diagnosis <#methodology-for-developing-ethical-maturity-diagnostics>`_ These tools are designed to support project managers in taking an ethical approach to designing, developing and maintaining their projects. In the three tools, to make the ethical charter's principles easier to understand, Ekitia has reorganised them and their titles (see below). .. image:: ../_images/ekilearning_familles_720.png :alt: Eki'Learning functionalities overview :align: center Methodology for developing e-learning capsules ---------------------------------------------- Ekitia has developed e-learning capsules to support the development of ethical data use skills among citizens, professionals, students and researchers. These capsules provide operational content and resources structured around a clear and accessible framework for understanding issues related to data and artificial intelligence use, based on the Ekitia Ethical Charter. Below is an extract of the Editorial Charter: Content pillars: - Understanding the issues and context -> Contextualise and give meaning to ethical principles in relation to the reality of data use and digital transformation. - Questioning -> Each module begins with a problem arising from the context to encourage learners to think critically. - Equip yourself -> Concrete recommendations, resources, tools and best practices drawn from the Charter, field feedback and experts. - Test and progress -> Interactive formats: H5P format for more interaction (animations, hover effects, etc.) with modules and quizzes. - Discovering perspectives -> Testimonials, interviews, use cases, controversies: open up the discussion. - Each nugget is independent. Format: - Nuggets: short format (5 to 30 minutes), with multimedia assets and levelled information. - Structured Moodle module: foundation of the platform, structured around the principles of the Charter. - H5P: modules built in H5P for greater interaction with dynamic formats. - Interactive quizzes: formative and/or summative assessment, consolidation of learning - Expert interview videos: a variety of viewpoints, key contributions. - Summary sheets (infographics): downloadable reminders of the principles. - Integrated glossary: helps with understanding all key terms. - Infographics/illustrations Methodology for developing ethical scan --------------------------------------- In 2025, EKITIA developed the Ethical Scan to help identify ethical issues in any project involving data (e.g. personal, geolocated, measurement, image or video data) at any stage of the project's life cycle. The scan is based on the EKITIA ethical charter, which sets out 21 principles for the ethical use of data and artificial intelligence in relation to societal, individual, environmental and governance issues. The tool has been tested by several organisations. Feedback from these tests has enabled continuous improvement of the tool. Methodology for developing ethical maturity diagnostics ------------------------------------------------------- In 2024, Ekitia has developed another tool based on, and aimed to operationalise its Ethical Charter. This tool has been designed to help projects managers in the self-assessment of the ethical maturity of their projects based on data processing, by design. It differs from the Label by being based on only thirty criteria coming from the Charter, and by enabling project managers to identify the levers of action adapted to their level of maturity, enabling them to progress throughout the various stages of the implementation of their project. Ekitia and its members, including several academic actors (INSERM, IRT Saint Exupéry, ANITI...) are constantly improving the reference framework on which the tool is based.
