Overview ======== **HiReNext** is a pilot service built on the Destination Earth Service Platform (DESP) that helps transmission-system operators (TSOs) and grid engineers make real-time decisions about high-voltage overhead line capacity. It combines **DestinE climate data** retrieved through the DESP Polytope API with a user-managed inventory of high-voltage *spans* (line segments defined by GPS coordinates) to deliver: * **Weather forecasts** — up to 7-day, point-level forecasts of temperature, wind, humidity, pressure and precipitation along every span. * **Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) severity maps** — pan-European visualisations that show, hour by hour, how ambient conditions affect the thermal capacity of overhead lines. Key capabilities ---------------- .. list-table:: :header-rows: 1 :widths: 30 70 * - Feature - Description * - Span management - Upload and manage high-voltage line segments as collections of lat/lon coordinates (CSV or JSON). Each span is private to the authenticated user. * - Weather forecasts - On-demand per-span forecasts for up to 7 days, covering six meteorological parameters sourced from the DestinE Extremes Digital Twin. * - DLR severity map - Interactive European map coloured by a 5-level severity scale derived from temperature and wind speed. Refreshed automatically as new forecast data arrives. * - Admin dashboard - Usage statistics (registered users, active users, spans uploaded, data retrievals) for service administrators. Architecture overview --------------------- HireNext consists of two components: * **Backend** — FastAPI application (Python) that authenticates users via the DESP Keycloak IAM, fetches forecast data from the Polytope API, persists spans and user events in PostgreSQL, and serves a REST API. * **Frontend** — Next.js single-page application that provides the user interface: span management, forecast charts, and the DLR severity map. Both components are deployed on the DESP Runtime Platform and are accessible through the DESP Web Portal.
