There are many parameters that can be used to assess the condition of a body of water. Some of these can be determined from satellite imagery. This section lists the parameters available on the platform and explains their purpose.

Water quality is described by 3 types of products:

  • Remote sensing reflectances : The Remote Sensing Reflectances (Rrs) product provides the bottom-of-atmosphere reflectances of waters i.e. after atmospheric correction and taking into account the sunglint removal. It is the direct radiometric equivalent of light measurement onfield.

  • Surface temperature : The Temperature of the skin of water (Tskin) product derives the dynamic temperature of the very first microns at the surface of the water.

  • Bio-optical parameters : The bio-optical parameters include several products relative to the quality of the water such as Transparency (Kd, Zsd), Turbidity, Suspended Particulate Matter concentration (SPM) or Chlorophyll-a concentration (Chla) directly usable by end-users.

The biogeochemical parameters are derived from Sentinel-2 satellite imagery, whilst the temperature is derived from Landsat 8 and 9 imagery. Once a week, the processing chain detects new satellite products and runs atmospheric corrections to produce L2A products and the algorithms to produce the parameters .
