DT-HEAT+ is a digital twin designed to raise awareness and provide real-time intelligence on heat-related mortality—often overlooked despite being labelled by WHO as a “silent killer.” By combining AI-driven models with data from DestinE’s Digital Twin Components (EXTREMES and Climate), DT-HEAT+ delivers short-term mortality risk estimates and visualizations for city and regional authorities, urban planners, policymakers, and emergency services. Developed under a Letter of Intent between the National Observatory of Athens, ESA, ECMWF, and EUMETSAT, DT-HEAT+ strengthens DestinE’s goals by showcasing actionable digital twin solutions for climate resilience. Deployed in Athens and Prague as part of the EU-funded CARMINE project ( https://carmine-project.eu/ ), the service is designed for scalability across cities.

This tutorial introduces DT-HEAT+, a digital twin service that provides next-day predictions of heat-related mortality risk in urban areas. Developed by the National Observatory of Athens under the CARMINE project and awarded “Most Promising Proposal” by ESA’s DestinE Innovation Challenge, DT-HEAT+ combines deep learning with high-resolution Earth Observation and urban data. Now integrated into the Destination Earth platform through a partnership with ESA, ECMWF, and EUMETSAT, it supports city authorities, researchers, and emergency planners in assessing and managing heat risk. This video walks you through accessing the platform, interpreting the dashboard, and understanding how the tool supports climate resilience and public health preparedness.
