The DEA service, implemented by partner Alia Space, has released a new interactive story titled A neverending winter, focusing on the impact of Storm Erminio in Central Italy.
Between 31 March and 2 April 2026, Storm Erminio brought intense and persistent snow and rainfall to the Abruzzo and Molise regions in central Italy, causing widespread 𝖽𝖾𝗏𝖺𝗌𝗍𝖺𝗍𝗂𝗈𝗇 and damage, particularly to already vulnerable transport infrastructure.
As the emergency unfolded, the Copernicus EMS On-Demand Rapid Mapping service was activated on 1 April 2026 at 15:16 UTC, following a request from the Italian Department of Civil Protection, to support emergency response activities and damage assessment.
The story, now available on DEA, retraces the event and highlights the resilience of the communities affected by the storm.
