EO4EU (“AI-augmented ecosystem for Earth Observation data accessibility with Extended reality User Interfaces for Service and data exploitation”) is a Horizon Europe project that ran from June 2022 to November 2025. The project involved 19 organisations across 10 countries and was technically coordinated by ECMWF.
EO4EU addresses the long-standing challenge of fragmented Earth observation (EO) data by providing a unified, AI-augmented and cloud-native platform that simplifies data discovery, processing and visualisation.
The platform integrates machine learning, knowledge graphs and extended reality, offering key capabilities such as knowledge graph-based search for heterogeneous EO datasets, workflow-oriented processing, an AI/ML Marketplace, multi-source data fusion, serverless Function-as-a-Service capabilities, and multiple user interfaces ranging from APIs to immersive XR environments.
To demonstrate its applicability, EO4EU has validated its approach through seven use cases spanning ocean monitoring, food security, forest ecosystems, soil erosion, pest detection, personalised healthcare, and civil protection, highlighting its potential impact across environmental, societal, and economic domains.
