VizLab enables seamless integration between user-supplied datasets and DestinE Platform-native content, supporting advanced cross-domain workflows for the exploration, analysis, and communication of Earth system information. This interoperability allows users to combine heterogeneous data streams within a single, coherent 4D visualization environment – spanning space, time, and multiple physical variables.
These capabilities support robust inspection of high-resolution simulation outputs, observational datasets, and derived products, facilitating comparative analysis across Digital Twin configurations and scenario runs.
VizLab contributes to the broader DestinE objective of enabling transparent, accessible, and scientifically rigorous interaction with Earth system data – empowering users to construct interactive 4D narratives for research, decision-support, and stakeholder communication.
What’s new in this release?
VizLab 9 offers greater flexibility and more powerful capabilities, with the following new features and improvements:
Visualisation and user interface
- Mobile-optimised visualisation
- An improved user interface
- GISCO maps to support compliance with EU requirements
Sharing and presentation
- Private Share: VIZ’s sharing with code for distribution to selected users only
- Private Share: option of disabling “Save as a Copy” by VIZ creator
- Enhanced VIZ descriptions and instructions for presenters
User-requested improvements and bugs correction
- Reverse Colour Table for grid layers
- Added timeline time interval command: Set Time from Scene
Data access and integrations
- Earth Data Hub: ingestion and extraction of data from Zarr archives in the new unified cache.
- EDEN: visualisation of data via Web Coverage Service (WCS).
Further visualisation modules and service integrations are already under development, reinforcing DestinE Platform’s evolution as a scalable and interoperable platform within the DestinE framework.
Deployment details
The new release will be deployed on Wednesday 9 September, from 10.00 to 14:00 CEST. The service is expected to be unavailable for approximately 4 hours during this deployment window.
