NUPSI new release live on 29 October

This major release introduces a redesigned interface, improved performance, mobile access and new tools for exploring and comparing Earth observation data.

We are pleased to announce the upcoming release of NUPSI 2.0.0, the NUts Production Storage and Imagery service, introducing a major evolution of the service through a redesigned user interface, significantly improved performance, expanded mobile accessibility, and new capabilities for exploring and comparing Earth observation data.

What’s new in this release?

The new version introduces a completely redesigned user interface, with substantial performance improvements across the application. The updated experience provides smoother interactions and more efficient navigation. NUPSI is also now available in tablet and mobile versions, extending access to its core functionalities across a wider range of devices.

Several enhancements have been introduced to Sentinel-1 data processing. The integration of Sentinel-1D expands the satellites contributing to data production, while the improved handling of ascending and descending orbit passes supports more comprehensive processing of Sentinel-1 observations. The workflow for systematic data production has also been optimised and accelerated, improving the efficiency of routine processing activities.

New features for data exploration and visualisation

NUPSI 2.0.0 introduces several new tools to provide greater flexibility when exploring and analysing Earth observation data:

  • Sun Zenith Angle limitations: users can now visualise the limitations associated with the Sun Zenith Angle, providing additional context when interpreting Sentinel-2 products
  • Live BandMath editing: the new Edit BandMath feature allows users to modify the RioTiler expression used to render STAC data directly within the application, enabling more flexible and interactive visualisation workflows
  • Interactive Stories: users can explore the temporal evolution of satellite observations through an interactive timelapse-style animation, displaying data over the same Area of Interest across up to the 12 preceding monthly periods relative to the most recent available month
  • Simultaneous product comparison: a new comparison tool allows users to display two products over the same Area of Interest using a movable vertical split line, facilitating direct visual comparison between datasets

Improvements to existing functionalities

Several existing features have also been enhanced to make the definition of Areas of Interest and the management of user sessions more flexible

  • Enhanced polygon drawing: users can now draw polygons spanning multiple countries, making it easier to define custom Areas of Interest across national boundaries
  • Expanded GeoJSON support: the upload workflow now supports additional GeoJSON structures, including FeatureCollection objects and MultiPolygon geometries, providing greater flexibility when importing custom areas
  • Session continuity: users can now retain their current activities when transitioning from a Guest User session to a Logged User session, allowing them to continue their work with less disruption.

Improved authentication and API access

NUPSI 2.0.0 introduces support for the OAuth 2.0 Device Authorization Grant, providing an additional authentication workflow for supported clients and programmatic access scenarios. Detailed information and usage instructions are available in the NUPSI API documentation and Swagger interface.

Finally, this release includes bug fixes and minor improvements across the application, further enhancing its stability, usability, and overall reliability.

Deployment details

The new release will be deployed on Thursday 29 October, from 09:30 to 11:30 UTC (10:30 to 12:30 CET). A brief service outage is expected during this window.
