MHT – Multiple Hypothesis Testing

Conceptual Overview

MoMo uses a Multiple Hypothesis Testing (MHT) approach to identify the simplest model that best explains each deformation time series.

In practice, this means:

• Testing multiple candidate models (with or without breakpoints, external variables)

• Statistically comparing them using objective criteria

• Selecting the optimal hypothesis that balances goodness-of-fit and model complexity

This approach ensures robust, interpretable results while avoiding overfitting.
