FloodCast is a pilot flood early-warning service for Italy. It provides the output of the national-scale FloodPROOFS hydrological model (running at 500 m resolution over ~500 river sections) using as daily meteorological forcing the Extremes-DT data (IFS at 4.4 km). An AI-based triggering algorithm (provided by DWD from their SynCast framework) detects critical precipitation thresholds and activates on-demand ICON forecasts at 1 km resolution (again initialized with Extremes-DT data); FloodPROOFS is then re-executed with the higher-resolution input. The service delivers two products: hourly streamflow forecasts (NetCDF, CF-1.8) for the covered italian river network and flood return-period maps (GeoTIFF, EPSG:4326). Products are accessible via an interactive web dashboard supporting visualisation, inspection, and download. Primary users are Civil Protection operators at national and regional level in Italy.
