DEA: new interactive story on the Melissa and Kiko hurricanes

A new DEA story combines Copernicus and EarthCARE data to illustrate the evolution of recent extreme weather events.

The DEA service, implemented by partner Alia Space, has published a new interactive story that brings to life the evolution of the Melissa and Kiko hurricanes, which have recently affected the Caribbean and the Pacific regions.

Hurricane Melissa, the strongest on record for Jamaica, made landfall near New Hope before crossing eastern Cuba, while Kiko swept north of Hawaii as a Category 4 storm, generating powerful surf and coastal impacts.

Using Copernicus and EarthCARE data, the story demonstrates how space-based insights can help us better understand and visualise the dynamics of extreme weather events.
