This page describes typical applications of the Energy Indicators and points to example notebooks to retrieve the data in the Destination Earth Core Service Platform.

Energy Indicators can support decision making in fields such as:
Climate analysis of near- to mid-term wind and solar resource availability.
Assessment of wind resource variability and extreme wind conditions.
Screening of low-wind and high-wind event occurrence for wind power planning.
Analysis of wind turbine capacity factor distributions for selected turbine classes.
Estimation of photovoltaic potential from irradiance, temperature, and wind conditions.
Heating and cooling demand studies using degree-day indicators.
Impact studies that connect climate information with energy system planning and adaptation decisions.
Data access¶
Energy Indicators output is published on the DestinE Data Lake under the collection
identifier EO.BSC.DAT.ENERGY_INDICATORS. Different model experiments appear as
separate items, so users can identify the experiment, period, and realization
they need and open the corresponding files directly.
Data Lake access and STAC metadata conventions are documented in the DestinE Data Lake documentation.
Notebook examples¶
The following example notebook demonstrates data retrieval and simple plotting of Energy Indicators data. Additional examples will follow.
