Data Quality and Evaluation¶
This page summarises available information on accuracy, uncertainty, validation, known gaps, caveats, and version history for the HydroMet application. The main findings from the model-specific evaluation are summarised below:
The general climate model performance in terms of precipitation is stronger in summer than in winter, which is relevant as most extreme precipitation events in Europe occur during summer.
Evaluation over Germany is performed with the KOSTRA dataset; over Europe, GPEX [Gründemann et al., 2023] is used
Overall, HydroMet shows good agreement with reference datasets (KOSTRA and GPEX), particularly for Central and Northern Europe.
Extreme precipitation intensities are generally slightly underestimated compared to KOSTRA, which is expected due to differences in observational record length and methodology.
Agreement with GPEX on a continental scale is reasonable, although regional deviations occur, particularly in Southern and Eastern Europe.
ICON simulations tend to produce higher extreme precipitation intensities compared to other models, potentially representing an upper bound of extreme event estimates.
Differences between models (IFS-NEMO, IFS-FESOM, ICON) highlight uncertainties related to model configuration and representation of short-duration events.
Comparison with observational datasets is influenced by differences in spatial and temporal resolution, which should be considered when interpreting results.
Projection results indicate a general increase in extreme precipitation intensity across Europe, although the magnitude and spatial distribution vary between regions and models.
Current evaluation status¶
The available evaluation material currently focuses on comparisons with the DWD dataset KOSTRA over Germany and GPEX over Europe.

Known gaps, anomalies, and caveats¶
In its current version, HydroMet does not exactly match the method used in the KOSTRA dataset. The form parameter is assumed to be negative in HydroMet, while it is assumed to be positive in KOSTRA.
Version history and change logs¶
This guide describes the initial data release obtained with v.1.2.0 of HydroMet. HydroMet does not have a public repository.
